Gordie and Barbara Robbins sold their home in Wappingers Falls, NY, sailboat in Stonington, CT and relocated to Austin in 1994. It was a good time to move, their youngest of five children had just graduated high school and was on her way to ASU. Gordie continued his employment with IBM until he retired in 2009. After a lifelong affinity with various sports car marques, in 2005 he purchased a 2004 Boxster S 550SE and joined PCA. Gordie is currently driving his third Porsche, a 2014 911S Cab, and also owns a “compact(ed)” 911 GT3 Cup Car. Barbara recently acquired her first Porsche, a 2018 Macan GTS.
Gordie has enjoyed helping out in HCR. Some examples are serving as the Lunch Bunch Chair, participating in the early relationship between HCR and COTA, throwing a great party at the Salt Lick for the first F1 USGP, and co-arranging a three day driving HCR tour to Houston. Barbara and Gordie have been honored in receiving the John C. Musgrove Volunteer(s) of the Year Award twice.
He presently serves as the Membership Chair and Test Drive Program Coordinator.
